Senate Democrats Press CIA Leak Probe

From our about-damn-time file, we have stalwart Senator John Kerry (D-MA), authoring a letter to Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, (R-TN) and House Speaker Dennis Hastert, (R-IL), demanding a Congressional investigation into the disclosure of CIA officer Valerie Plame's identity.

"Americans deserve a Congress that holds Washington accountable for the truth about our national security," said Kerry. "Can anyone argue with a straight face that Congress has time to look at steroid use in baseball but doesn't have the will to provide congressional oversight of the leak of a CIA agent's name?"

Senator Frank Lautenberg, (D-NJ), blasted the unmitigated power wielded by the Bush White House.

"There is no oversight of the White House in this Congress," Lautenberg said. "None — it's a free pass. And that is dangerous for the country."

The letter was signed by Kerry and 24 Senate Democrats including, surprisingly, Mary Landrieu (D-LA), who is still at the top of the Yellow Dog Blog's Senate Weasel Meter for siding with Republicans on too many issues.

No Republicans signed the letter. Now there's a surprise.
