Swing State Project reports that Paul Hackett, the charismatic Iraq war veteran who barely lost a recent congressional race to Jean Schmidt in a heavily-Republican Ohio district, will challenge Republican Senator Mike DeWine for his U.S. Senate seat next year.

Hackett, who came damn close to winning in one of Ohio's most conservative congressional districts this summer – all the while referring to George W. Bush as a "chickenhawk" – is enthusiastic about running statewide, with the momentum and publicity of his last race.
