What You Missed During Jackson Coverage

As Randi Rhodes would say, “the news has been canceled” since the Michael Jackson verdict was announced and I just wanted to bring you a report you undoubtedly have not heard anywhere else: We've learned of the deaths of nine more of our soldiers in Iraq since Monday.

They are:
  • Sgt. David J. Murray, 23, of Clinton, La., died in Baghdad,when an improvised explosive device detonated near his military vehicle.
  • Cpl. Stanley J. Lapinski, 35, of Las Vegas, Nev., died in Baghdad when an improvised explosive device detonated near his military vehicle.
  • Lance Cpl. John J. Mattek Jr., 24, of Stevens Point, Wis., died from wounds received as a result of an explosion while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Al Anbar Province.
  • Spc. Casey Byers, 22, of Schleswig, Iowa died in Al Taqaddum when an improvised explosive device detonated near his military vehicle.
  • Sgt. 1st Class Neil A. Prince, 35, of Baltimore, MD died in Al Taqaddum when an improvised explosive device detonated near his military vehicle.
  • Lance Cpl. Mario A. Castillo, 20, of Brownwood, Texas died as a result of an explosion while conducting combat operations in Saqlawiyah.
  • Lance Cpl. Andrew J. Kilpela, 22, of Fowerville, Mich. died as a result of an explosion while conducting combat operations in Saqlawiyah.
  • Sgt. Larry R. Arnold Sr., 46, of Carriere, Miss. died in Owesat Village, when his armored personnel carrier was hit by an improvised explosive device.
  • Spc. Terrance D. Lee Sr., 25, of Moss Point, Miss. died in Owesat Village, when his armored personnel carrier was hit by an improvised explosive device.
