BuzzFlash's GOP Hypocrite Of The Week
Now, here is a guy who kept saying that the White House didn't condone torture and that any abuse of Muslim prisoners that occurred was do to a "few bad apples."You can read – and hear! – the rest at GOPhypocrites.com.
There were just a few things wrong with this PR spin. For one thing, it was a lie. There's even the proof in the form of a memo by then White House Counsel Alberto Gonzales laying out the legal justifications for torture. Two, despite confirmation that senior Pentagon and White House officials were aware of torture, they were virtually all promoted -- while the low level stiffs took the rap. Hey, Gonzales got to be America's Attorney General.
Then, last week the normally Stepford Republicans in the senate revolted and passed a bill that included a ban on torture. Surprisingly, there were only nine pro-torture Republican votes! Hmmm, is that progress or what?
And what did Bush threaten to do? Why, to veto the entire bill because it prohibited the kind of torture that George claimed the administration didn't engage in.
