California GOP Compares Obama to Osama bin Laden

I didn’t think it would be possible to have less patience with John McCain's whining lately about Rep. John Lewis' remarks in which the civil rights icon, in assailing the hateful aspects of the McCain-Palin campaign, said they "are sowing the seeds of hatred and division" and compared the venom coming from the crowds at recent McCain rallies with that seen at events once held by segregationist George Wallace.

Lewis spoke the truth and it's tough to get all teary-eyed over McCain's indignation when the only thing missing from his crowds' standard equipment these days is a hood and a rope.

And then I saw this story in the Sacramento Bee about the Sacramento County Republican Party posting an anti-Obama graphic on its official web site that compared the Democratic nominee to Osama bin Laden, saying "The only difference between Obama and Osama is BS" and "Waterboard Barack Obama."

Have a look:

Commenting on his web site, county Republican party chairman Craig MacGlashan said simply "I'm aware of the content. Some people find it offensive, others do not. I cannot comment on how people interpret things."

Just lovely.

By Tuesday night the graphic had been removed but this is the kind of thing I carry with me -- it certainly won’t be the last time we see this, or worse, out of the Republicans -- and it allows me to not feel one shred of remorse when I hear the likes of John McCain crying in his pretzels because someone like Lewis, who once saw hate-mongering up close and personal, recognizes it so vividly when he sees it again.

So before Senator McCain whines about anything like Congressman Lewis' words, he should look at stuff like this -- because the people pushing this slime are most assuredly McCain people.
