Democrats Need To Sleep On This News

It has been roughly 30 minutes since the "Gang of 14" announced that a compromise has been reached that will allow some of Bush's nastiest judicial nominees to proceed to a full Senate vote, while nuking Bill Frist's "nuclear option."

Frist seems pretty pissed and Harry Reid could only answer that the "nuclear option is off the table" when asked what this deal means to Democrats.

Like many of you are probably feeling, I'm very discouraged and feel a bit like I've been kicked in the groin as we once again compromise with people who have shown us so many times before that they are not worthy of such faith.

But I have to believe that there is more to this than meets the eye. Perhaps Senate Democrats knew Frist actually had the votes for the "nuclear option" and opted to guarantee the filibuster and fight another day on the Supreme Court front.

I don't know.

For right this minute, the wisest course of action seems to be to turn off the television, have a stiff drink and go to bed.
