Let's Have The Filibuster Fight

Enough of this noise.

We're an opposition party and it's time to act like it. Like their President, Republicans like to strut around Washington claming a mandate they do not have and offering as their only olive branch to Democrats a "compromise" that involves our side accepting every single one of Bush's backwoods judicial appointments.

To paraphrase Chris Rock, I'm tired of this crap. Tired. Tired. Tired!

They don't have the votes to eliminate the filibuster and they know it. Even the most spineless Democrat won't dare defect on this one and you can start reeling off the names already of Republicans too smart to change a long-standing Senate rule, designed to preserve some minority-party rights and influence.

John McCain and Lincoln Chafee have already said they won't support this nonsense. Look for Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe and Chuck Hagel to follow suit. Even Richard Lugar -- you know, the same guy trying to hammer through the John Bolton nomination – has said he's against removing the filibuster.

Let's do this thing.

The Republicans are bad card players, holding a bunch of nothing and acting like it's a royal flush.

It's time to call their bluff -- and harshly.
