Look Out For The Religious Right, Senator Hagel

Man, it's not often I'm proud of politicians from my home state of Nebraska – yes, the Yellow Dog is from one of the reddest of the red states – but Republican Senator Chuck Hagel deserves some serious props for his honesty on the Senate filibuster issue.

"The Republicans' hands aren't clean on this either. What we did with Bill Clinton's nominees - about 62 of them - we just didn't give them votes in committee or we didn't bring them up," said Hagel on This Week, yesterday.

It'll be interesting to see how this plays in Nebraska and how much pressure comes to bear on Senator Hagel from George W. Bush's masters on the Religious Right. But you have to admire Hagel's guts in pointing out the hypocrisy that has come to characterize his party's political behavior.
