It's A Beautiful Morning

What a way for the Yellow Dog to start his day: The sun is shining, the Downing Street Memo got play on at least three cable news shows last night and a Washington Post-ABC News poll shows that most Americans believe the Iraq war is actually promoting terrorism.

To further quote the Post: "Nearly three-quarters of Americans say the number of casualties in Iraq is unacceptable, while two-thirds say the U.S. military there is bogged down and nearly six in 10 say the war was not worth fighting -- in all three cases matching or exceeding the highest levels of pessimism yet recorded. More than four in 10 believe the U.S. presence in Iraq is becoming analogous to the experience in Vietnam."

These are the worst numbers the Bush White House has seen when respondents were asked these questions – including, for the first time, a majority of Americans believing that Bush has done more to divide the country than to unite it.

While this poll represents a lot of people coming to the dinner table when dessert is being served, I say better late than never.

It's a hopeful morning when it looks like both the media and the American people are awakening from their long sleep.
