And In The Background, New Iraq Deployments Continue

I'm on a lot of press-release mailing lists and I never fail to get a knot in my stomach when I get another one from the Department of Defense (DoD) announcing that we are sending yet more of America's men and women to Iraq to risk their lives in the Bush-McCain war-for-nothing.

"The Department of Defense announced today additional major units scheduled to deploy in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom," reads the press statement released on Tuesday. "The announcement involves one corps headquarters, one division headquarters, one Marine expeditionary force headquarters and seven brigade combat teams consisting of approximately 26,000 people."

The DoD goes on to add that these troops will serve in Iraq from later this year until "summer 2009," which assumes they won’t get extended for even longer -- and that's a huge assumption.

Finally, the announcement says that this deployment "reflects the continued commitment of the United States to the security of the Iraqi people and provides replacement forces required to maintain the current level of effort in Iraq."

"The current level of effort in Iraq." Lovely.

I'll let this cartoon from my friend, Paul Jamiol, sum it up:
