Yikes! An Armed Tom DeLay

Would you want this man near your kids?

(I'm referring to the guy in the tux, not the man in that cool coonskin hat.)

House Majority Leader Tom DeLay is finding it hard to escape his many troubles these days. I mean, you know you've got major problems when Newt Gingrich is lecturing you on ethics issues.

Rather than admit his guilt of illegal dealings with conservative lobbyists and funneling money to his immediate family, DeLay has chosen to blame his political problems on the fictitious liberal media and a vast left-wing conspiracy. So it looks like he's going to ride this out by appealing to the basest members of the Republican base and last night made a speech to the National Rifle Association (NRA).

You can read the Associated Press account of his NRA appearance here.

"When a man is in trouble or in a good fight, you want to have your friends around, preferably armed. So I feel really good," said DeLay to his gun-toting supporters.

Lovely.

This is also the guy who vowed to go after all of the judges who ruled in the Terri Schiavo case, many of whom are Republicans appointed by Ronald Reagan and W's daddy.

So one has to wonder, where are all the people on the religious right, who make it their mission to carp about ethics and morals, when it comes to Mr. DeLay?
